Minister-Counsellor Jiang Feng appointed as SISU's Chair of University Council
Deputy Education Minister Wang Liying, on behalf of China's Ministry of Education, announnced in Shanghai that Jiang Feng is appointed as SISU's Chair of University Council. Jiang Feng was the Minister Counselor for Education of the Chinese Embassy to Germany. As a SISU alumnus, he grduated from the School of Germanic Studies in 1984 and worked in the Ministry of Education for years.

SISU's Middle East Studies Institute becomes one of China's top think tanks
The Middle East Studies Institute (MESI) at SISU is the only national key research institute focusing on Middle Eastern aned Islamic Studies in China. A think tank council of MESI was established to further enhance its academic strength and cooperation, composed of an array of China's most distinguished scholars in Middle Eastern studies and diplomats in Arab and African countries.

Portugal's President Cavaco Silva visits SISU to enhance ties
Portugal’s president, Cavaco Silva, met during May with SISU President Cao Deming to promote SISU-Portugal cooperation. Silva was at SISU for the signing of documents for a cooperative “2+2” dual-degree program between SISU and Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Silva and Cao also unveiled a plaque for the newly established SISU’s Center for Portuguese Studies.

SISU students and faculty members volunteer for CICA Shanghai Summit
60 SISU students volunteered to work at the fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held May 20-21 in Shanghai. SISU supplied the most student volunteers, and spoke the most languages, among 260 students from six Shanghai universities. Many SISU professors also volunteered as interpreters, greeters and in other capacities.

SISU founds School of International Relations and Public Affairs
A new School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) was founded at SISU, committed to promoting education and scholarship on world politics and global affairs. SISU is now the only university of foreign studies that operates the doctorial and post-doctoral programs in political science and has emerged as one of the country’s leading academic think tanks in diplomacy and international relations.

SISU launches new postgraduate degree program in China Studies
Taught in English, the China Studies Program (CSP) at SISU offers a broad, interdisciplinary approach to the study of China. In the two-year program design, international students will join in the courses on Chinese history and culture systematically and study the politics and governance, economy, foreign policy and society of China comprehensively.

SISU joins FutureLearn to forge global partnership in MOOCs
SISU becomes the latest leading Chinese university to join FutureLearn, the UK-based social learning platform, with the aim of creating high quality educational experiences for its worldwide community of learners through massive open online courses (MOOCs). A signing ceremony to seal the partnership took place in Shanghai, attended by SISU President Cao Deming and Simon Nelson, CEO of FutureLearn.

SISU unveiled Visual Identity System and new portal websites globally
SISU unveiled its Visual Identity System (VI) late December to promote the university's branding and cultural image and facilitate its reputation as a leading university. SISU also launched its foreign-language portal websites (http://global.shisu.edu.cn) in 21 languages, which are the most among Chinese universities and colleges, marking the university’s 65th anniversary with a new and global digital identity.

SISU listed as one of the Outstanding Confucius Institute Chinese Partners
On the 9th Confucius Institute Conference held in Xiamen, SISU was recognized by Hanban, or the Confucius Institute Headquarters, as one of the Outstanding Confucius Institute Chinese Partners for its commitment to international Chinese education. The Confucius Institute at the Oriental University of Napoli, SISU’s partner in Italy, was also awarded “Excellent Confucius Institute”.
